About
One person, Berlin, and an exam that had to be passed quickly.
DeutschPass is built by Youssef Salem, a computer-science master’s student in Berlin. I came to Germany as an international student and ran into the problem this platform exists to solve: I needed a German certificate on a deadline, and everything available was built for people with years, not months.
Language schools moved at the pace of a semester. Coursebooks taught German in general and the exam almost incidentally. What I actually needed was the opposite — to know exactly what the exam asked for, and to spend every hour on that.
So I worked backwards from the exam itself and passed telc C1 Hochschule in under three months. DeutschPass is that method written out properly: the same reverse engineering, the same daily structure, for B1, B2 and C1.
Learning German is free here
Passing an exam on a deadline is the part you pay for. Everything below is free and open — no trial, no credit card.
The A1–C1 course
Sixty units across five CEFR levels, each with audio, vocabulary, grammar and exercises. Free — the first unit of every level opens without an account, the rest needs a free account and no payment.
Open the course →The level check
Twenty questions, about eight minutes, and an honest CEFR estimate from A2 to C1 broken down by grammar, vocabulary and reading. No account at all.
Take the level check →The C1 readiness check
Fifteen questions for anyone aiming at telc C1 Hochschule or TestDaF, with an estimate of how many weeks of focused work still stand between you and a pass.
Check your C1 readiness →The Einbürgerungstest trainer
The full public civics question bank for the German citizenship test, drillable by federal state, with explanations written from scratch.
Practise the civics test →How it pays for itself
There are no investors and no advertising, so the free side is funded by optional exam preparation: a one-time payment for the track you need — €29 for B1, €39 for B2, €69 for C1 Hochschule. No subscription, and nothing recurring. That is the whole business model, stated plainly so nobody has to work it out.
How it is built
Written here, not copied
Every text, exercise, explanation and model answer is original. Nothing is lifted from a coursebook. Where an official practice test exists, we link to the publisher's own free PDF rather than reproducing it.
Built by someone who sat the exam
The exam tracks mirror the real formats part by part — item counts, timings, how many times a listening text plays, how points are awarded. That comes from working through the official handbooks, not from guessing.
No advertising, no data resale
There are no ads and no trackers that follow you around. Analytics are cookieless, which is why this site has no cookie banner. Your data is never sold and never shared for advertising — the full detail is in the Datenschutzerklärung.
Honest about what it is
DeutschPass is not a language school and does not issue certificates. It prepares you for exams that telc, the Goethe-Institut and TestDaF run — you still sit those with them.
Get in touch
There is no support team — messages come to me. If you are a university, a language programme or a student organisation, the institutions page explains how DeutschPass can sit alongside what you already run. Otherwise write to support@mydeutschpass.com. Postal address and legal details are in the Impressum.
